Meander Uganda
Join us in a grand adventure, and help raise vital funds for Cricket Without Boundaries, on our “Meander Uganda” virtual mission!
While COVID-19 continues to restrict our ability to travel internationally, don’t let that stop you from discovering the great work done by CWB and the Uganda Cricket Association across “the Pearl of Africa”. Starting at the source of the Nile in Jinja (one of several sites that claim to be the source of the Nile that CWB volunteers have been lucky enough to visit!) the “Meander Uganda” mission takes you and your team on a 750-mile journey where that you can find out about our Ugandan Ambassadors and the work that CWB does in the country.
In team of up to 6, you’ll have three months to traverse the country. As you reach milestones at key CWB locations you will find out more about those places and people with update emails, and you’ll be able to track your team’s location via the My Virtual Mission web/mobile app. You can link the app to your usual exercise tracking app (such as Strava or Map My Run) or input your distance or steps manually each day. There’s no limit on how you can rack up the miles – run, walk, cycle, swim or even pogo-stick!
We’re also linking up with the Captain Tom 100 Challenge by launching the mission on the 30th April – can your team complete the first 100 miles, or do another sponsored “100” challenge, to support CWB? Set your team off to a great start and get active this May bank holiday weekend! You can use our preferred platform, Virgin Money Giving, to make this easy.
This second mission – following the Rwanda Ramble at the start of the year – is part of our efforts raise funds to support the work of our Ambassadors, with a target of £15,000. This will fund the activities of our 8 Ambassadors in spreading vital health messages and coaching cricket – keeping children and communities safe.
Entry to the mission via the My Virtual Mission website is £10 per person. When you sign up, you can specify that you are part of a team (remember, up to 6 in a group, so get recruiting!) and our volunteer organisers will sort out the administration so you can “meander” together.
My Virtual Mission: FAQs
Q. Can I connect to fitness tracking apps?
A. Yes. Many fitness apps can be connected. Go to My Connections in the Main menu on My Virtual Mission and find the app that you want to connect. Click on app and follow instructions to connect.
Q. My distance isn’t showing on the mission progress but it’s all uploaded on my fitness tracker.
A. It takes some time for My Virtual Mission to connect to the fitness app in order to be able to sync. This should be rectified after a few hours and upload to the mission will be automatic.
Q. I don’t have a fitness app, can I still be part of the mission?
A. Yes. Data can be added manually
Q. 750 miles seems a long way! What should I do if I don’t have other people to join me?
A. On sign-up you will be asked if you are entering solo, as part of an existing team (have your team name to hand!) or would like to be placed into a team. We will do all we can to make sure anyone who wants to be in a team of 6 will be.
Q. What distance do I need to cover to be part of the mission?
A. You can contribute as much or as little as is possible. The overall distance is a team effort and if you sign up and contribute you are part of the team.
Q. Can I use this as a fundraising event for volunteering on a Cricket Without Boundaries project?
A. Yes, while projects are currently on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions, any money raised on this mission or any other fundraising effort can be put towards volunteering on future projects.
