Henriette's Story
Henrietta Ishimwe started playing cricket when she was 14 years old at the CWB supported Ndera hub on the outskirts of Kigali, Rwanda.
Making her full international debut in 2018 her rise has been stellar. A few highlights being 4 wickets in 4 balls in the u19 world cup, being selected for the first FairBreak tournament in Dubai and recently helping Rwanda lift the Kwibuka cup with her player of the match performance in the final against Uganda.
For her performances in the u19 world cup she was voted ICC Women’s Player of the Month in March 2023.
“My favourite Cricket moment was playing in the u19 world cup, it was like a miracle to play against England, India and New Zealand I never believed I could play with them. Also to play for the Barmy Army team in the Fairbreak Tournament in Dubai with Heather Knight who is my role model.
It is very good now to see the girls at Ndera copying me and seeing me as a role model and I try to support them as much as possible. When I play now in the local community it is very hard, they all want to get me out!
Cricket is an opportunity, the girls used to be behind at their homes but now when they come to play cricket or other sports it gives you something, we get more respect from the boys as we are higher than them in cricket.”
Volunteer with CWB to help us find the next Henriette and start their cricketing journey, while also using the sport as a platform for positive social change.
