Gary Shankland: HIV/AIDS Lead Kenya
Gary is a 34 year old Insolvency Practitioner who, on a day-to-day basis, works with investors/management of businesses in financial distress. Gary admits that whilst being a lifelong cricket fanatic his skill levels have sadly never quite matched his enthusiasm for the game! Gary played for a village side for a number of years as an average leg spinner and useful tail-end blocker, but these days is generally limited to one or two guest appearances each year.
Gary applied for the role of HIV/Aids Lead-Kenya shortly after returning from Rwanda as part of the CWB Spring 2013 team:
''During my two weeks in Rwanda, I was struck by the level of interaction and openness that the children showed with us as coaches. The children were engaged and enthused with the messages were giving and I came away genuinely believing that sport is a unique way of delivering a message of positive change to children.
Seeing the work of CWB first hand made me determined to stay involved with the charity and I am delighted to be given this opportunity. To be a part of continuing the excellent work of CWB in Africa is very exciting and I very much look forward to working within the existing excellent team as we seek to continue to ensure that every child coached by the charity leaves the session having had fun and, more importantly, with an enhanced awareness of HIV / AIDS and how they can minimise their own risk of infection.''
Gary is extremely passionate about our work at CWB and is a fantastic addition to the growing CWB Family.
