CWB volunteers can now donate an unlimited amount of cricket equipment to people in developing countries thanks to a new partnership with LV= SOS Kit Aid.

At the click of a button people can arrange to have their old kit picked up from their home, school or club and delivered to places all over the world including CWB project countries Botswana, Cameroon, Kenya and Uganda.

CWB executive Hannah Weaver said: "We often have people that want to donate kit but there is a limit to what we have been able to take on projects due to the baggage allowance on flights.

"We have always done our best to take as much as possible but the issue has been what do we do when we have more kit than we can take out? It made perfect sense to go with LV= SOS Kit Aid as they have provided us with an easy solution. Now if anyone wants to donate gear we can just put them in touch with LV= SOS Kit Aid."

All kit given to LV= SOS Kit Aid through CWB will be delivered to people in developing countries learning to play cricket. Equipment will be delivered to the different cricket associations in each country to be distributed by them and volunteers on CWB projects.

The first link up between the two charities took place in Arua in Northern Uganda on CWB's recent spring trip.

Project leader Lee Booth said: "We were running a refresher course for local teachers when a teacher from another school – Anyafio Primary – came and asked what we are up to. When we told him he said it would be great if we could come and coach his pupils but they didn't have any equipment.

"Three hours later we turned up at his school, ran a session for 180 children. They had never done cricket before but they had a fantastic time and thanks to Kit Aid we were able to leave them with equipment to continue playing once we were gone."

As part of the agreement between the two charities CWB will assist LV= SOS Kit Aid by helping them monitor who the kit goes to in its project countries.

Jill Kennedy programme manager at LV= SOS Kit Aid said: "We are delighted to agree this partnership with CWB. It will be really mutually beneficial as they have projects but not the means to deliver kit whereas we can deliver kit but don't have our own projects. By working with CWB's country managers we know the kit will end up in the proper destination and we will be able to let track who gets it."

LV= SOS Kit Aid is a joint venture between The Lord's Taverners and the SOS Kit Aid charity, sponsored by Liverpool Victoria insurance. The charity's aim is to recycle sports kit for the benefit of young people in the UK and overseas. In 12 years more than £3.5m of recycled kit has been distributed to over 135,000 young people in the UK and abroad.
