Royston Rotary Club backs CWB and Cameron
A Rotary Club in Hertfordshire has become the latest supporter of the upcoming round of CWB projects, providing a donation of £500 which will deliver a substantial boost to funding for the autumn 2012 trips.
The work of CWB came to the attention of Paul Bolton, Head of the International Committee of the Royston Rotary Club, as a result of CWB volunteer Cameron Foster being crowned Rotary International of Britain and Ireland Young Citizen of the Year in April. Paul, who spend many years working in Africa himself, was delighted to add CWB to the charities which the International Committee was supporting for the Rotary year 2012/13.
CWB's Head of Corporate Fundraising and Partnerships, Andrew Ryan, journeyed to picturesque Royston on the northern slopes of the Hertfordshire Chalk Downs to speak to the club's members about the history and work of CWB, and accept the cheque on CWB's behalf. The audience, many of whom were clearly fans of the sport, were captivated by the stories of CWB's work in some of Africa's poorest and most at-risk areas. They were also particularly excited to hear about the charity exploring new frontiers with the addition of Cameroon to the project destinations. Mr Bolton remarked that "we were pleased to present a cheque to Andrew for CWB for £500 which recognises Cameron Foster's work with CWB. Our International Committee now hopes to source some used cricket equipment during the coming year to donate, and we are delighted to learn that CWB is expanding its own boundaries by adding Cameroon to the countries where it is present."
Andrew added that "Rotary clubs like Royston, with their sense of teamwork and community spirit, reflect many of the values we have at CWB. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to get to know some of the club members during my visit, and on behalf of CWB, I thank Royston Rotary Club sincerely for their generous donation."
