The Uganda team are out in country and due to start coaching tomorrow. In the meantime here is the press release from the UCA giving more information on the project.
'Cricket Without Boundaries (CWB) which is a UK based charity dedicated to helping, educating and developing local communities around the world through the spread and growth of cricket will be arriving in the country on 23rd September 2012 and depart on 7th October 2012. Since 2005, CWB has partnered with Uganda Cricket Association in Teacher Coach Training and coaching of students/pupils.
Among the districts to benefit are Gulu, Arua and Lira where Teachers’ Coaching Training, coaching of pupils and students are to be done. A total of 96 teachers shall be trained in cricket coaching, 15 primary schools and 9 secondary schools shall be coached. This is CWB’s third visit this year and second to the Northern Uganda following the delivery of Coaching Courses at Gulu, Arua and Lira. ‘Our partnership with CWB has been very integral over the years in training Ugandan teachers how to coach cricket, introducing many young boys and girls to the sport, support with basic equipment, and relay HIV/AIDS awareness messages’ said UCA Administrative Officer, Martin Ondeko.
While the head of the CWB eight man team, John Morton, says ‘Continuing the great work already accomplished in Uganda is hugely important to CWB and to our team for this autumn project. Our goals are simple in being able to pass on to as many as we can the opportunity to learn about and enjoy the amazing game of cricket, to introduce the game to so many who may not otherwise get the chance and to wrap that all up with a reinforcement and enhancement of the ever-more critical awareness of HIV/AIDS. We are looking forward to visiting this beautiful country and heading to the North will bring an added excitement to our team’. The CWB team comprises of the following:
