Five Star success for the training weekend!
Last weekend saw the CWB training weekend hosted by the Finham Park School in Coventry. Over the course of a very busy weekend the 40 volunteers not only met their fellow team-mates for the first time, but were given plenty of information about what awaits them on the projects as well as being assigned key roles. This meant that the weekend took the form of a mix of practical coaching sessions (ably led by tutor Rich Davies and Dan Feist) and class-room learning and group activities.
The Saturday saw a wide variety of activities and information for the volunteers, including a look at CWB from trustee Ed Williams, a great presentation on HIV/AIDS by Will Mclaren-Clark and a number of fantastic, fun and inspiring videos from previous trips.
There was then a inter Country tournament on Sunday, won by the Rwanda team, also known as the invincibles (however surprisingly the match up against the also strong Kenya team never materialised!) There was also the presentation to the newly qualified coaches, handing out the customary kit and a chance to deal with the final questions about the trip.
Ed Williams (CWB trustee) said ‘It was fantastic to see so many returning volunteers as well as welcoming fresh faces. Having five trips go out this Autumn shows real progression for the charity and we can’t wait to see what our new country Cameroon brings. Our thanks go to the staff at Finham Park school who looked after us so well over the weekend!’
Thanks also go to the CWB organisers Hannah Weaver and Sally Harper and all the returning volunteers who helped out. Finally, Sports Coach UK helped us hugely by making a donation of £400 for ther weekend - we cant thank you enough! Follow them on twitter, @sportscoachuk.
