Opening Up - Spring 2012
Once again this unique volunteer run charity continues to make a real and lasting difference to developing the game of cricket in Africa and using it to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS.
Over the spring CWB delivered 4 projects in Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Botswana. In the process over 4500 children were coached and importantly for sustainability almost 400 new coaches were trained. We are, as always, immensely grateful for the hard work not only from all our volunteers but also from the national cricket associations in each country, without whom none of what we do would be possible.
It was also the first time that we delivered as part of the ICC THINKWISE AIDS awareness programme and in Nairobi worked with the ground-breaking Mathare Youth Sports Association.
Some of you may also have seen the major international news story that was the Maasai warrior cricket team. We are proud of the work we have done to help develop the game with the Maasai and look forward to continue to work with the inspiring and ICC award winning Aliya Bauer.
We are also looking forward to our autumn projects where for the first time we will be visiting 5 countries, Cameroon being the new 5th country.
We have been on a remarkable journey since the three trustees set off in October 2005 to coach cricket from Cairo to Cape Town. None of this could have been done without the support and help from so many of you. So thanks once again for your continued support of CWB and "helping bowl AIDS out of Africa".
