Spring projects 2012
CWB return to Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Botswana this Spring.
This spring sees the projects kick off again – the main focus for CWB's work – with four great teams heading out to our four 'host countries'. If the training weekend is anything to go by they should be four fantastic, fun filled and worthwhile trips!
Kenya is the first trip to depart on Sunday until 27th February led by Country Manager Tracey Davies. The trip features a fantastic team of volunteers, including cricket blogger and author of Alternative Almanack Nishant Joshi (@Altcricket) and visits one of our 'flagship' projects the Maasai Cricket Warriors and to Kenya's biggest slum.
As the Kenya team prepare to come back, the Ugandan team prepare to go out (26th Feb to 13th March). The team is made up of Country Manager Simon Hards (from Surrey CC), project leader Paul Rowe (a CWB veteran) and a complete group from the Belvoir Castle Cricket Trust. The charity have been fantastic in supporting CWB and hopefully the group, featuring ex-first class cricket Darren Bicknell, will get a great deal out of the trip. It may be a bit different to coaching in the Nottinghamshire countryside but we are delighted to have them on board and adding to the charity!
The Rwandan team goes out on the 3rd-17th March with a mixture of experienced heads and enthusiastic new coaches. Old hands Lee Booth, Richard Thurston and Dave Terrace will be joined by new coaches and returning tutor Martin Eeles, looking to build on the great work of previous trips and to develop relationships with organisation such as the Rwandan Orphanage Project.
Last not but not least, the Botswana team leave on the 14th April returning 28th April. Led by Clare Fallis (Country Manager) and Mick Armstrong (Project Leader) with a team including CWB stalwart Jonathan Todd and top 'tweeters' Sam Stephenson and Rachael Dyer, they will continue the work from a year ago in Botswana, the country with the high(est) level of AIDS/HIV prevalence.
