Opening up - Feb 2012
As the UK shivers under snow and ice CWB's first Spring project has flown out to a much warmer Kenya. Over two weeks, in partnership with Cricket Kenya, the team will continue their efforts to develop grass roots cricket across the country. This will be our ninth visit to Kenya and will feature more coaching with the now world famous Maasai cricketers.
After the Kenya trip we have projects will go Uganda, Rwanda and Botswana, all over the next few months.
We have set an ambitious target for 2012: that of coaching 20,000 children, all of them being taught simple AIDS awareness messages through the game of cricket. We also intend to add a 5th Country to the CWB family later on in the year, with Cameroon looking the likely destination.
In order to reach our ambitious 2012 targets we need to continue to recruit volunteers. So if you have ever wanted to do something sustainable and tangible in parts of the world battling HIV/AIDS please have a look at our Online Application Form
Or if you know of anyone else that might be interested please do pass on the link.
In terms of fundraising we seem to have followed the weather and been doing it in sub-zero temperatures: The Captain Scott XI game in Norway and swimming in the World Outdoor swimming championships in Latvia being two notable examples. We still remain a charity of volunteers run by volunteers so virtually all of the money we raise goes to delivering projects.
Perhaps our biggest news of the last few months is that we are now an official delivery partner for the International Cricket Council's THINK WISE campaign. Like CWB, THINK WISE's goal is to raise awareness about the AIDS epidemic within the cricket community. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership in providing grass roots delivery of AIDS awareness messages and helping break down stigma in Africa and beyond.
We couldn't do any of this without your support so please do stay in touch and lets all continue to help "Bowl AIDS out of Africa" and reach another 20,000 children in 2012.
