CWB Dinner
CWB celebrated our 5th Anniversary with a gala fundraising dinner at Lord's on 12th October 2010. It was a fitting setting as, 5 years before to the day, the 3 founding trustees of CWB arrived at the Grace Gate at Lord’s to meet with John Stephenson and Chris Cowdrey for a photoshoot before starting the first CWB project in Africa.
The dinner was attended by 300 people, ranging from stalwart supporters of CWB to the new friends we made that night and celebrities such as Olympic medal winner Roger Black and beloved soap stars Helen Worth and Roberta Taylor to name but a few.
Our host for the evening was film and TV star, Jim Carter, and Simon Fanshawe ensured that the raffle and auction went smoothly, aided by prizes including a pitch inspection during a test match at the Oval and a holiday in St Lucia. The highlight of the evening was a special acoustic performance by the CWB supporters Keane, who mingled with the audience and wowed us with renditions of their biggest hits. We are delighted to report that the dinner raised over £20,000 for CWB thanks to the generosity of all those attending, our sponsor Lorien Resourcing, and the hard work of all our CWB volunteers.
We are looking forward to our 6th year of taking small steps but making a huge difference and hope to see you along the way.
