4th - 18th October
The Autumn 2014 project to Botswana was all about consolidating new relationships, and building on a winning CWB formula. The first week was spent based in the capital, Gaborone; where the Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) gave us a great welcome. In addition to visiting new schools with BCA coaches, we were able to visit the Gamodubu Trust. Run by volunteers, it offers support for many vulnerable children, and allowed the CWB message to get to the type of community that really feels the impact of HIV/AIDS in all its complexities.
Week two was based north in Francistown. Here we were able to reach schools further north than previous trips, near Sowa. We were able to concentrate more on coach development, building up the confidence of a number of coaches, and progressing them to Level 1 coaching certifications. Again, we were able to visit more community based projects, including an orphanage, a deaf school, a feeding programme in Francistown, as well as furthering a working relationship with Top Banana. In all, we were able to deliver the CWB message successfully to new areas, while strengthening relationships that will ensure future successes and build the future direction of projects to Botswana.
In all, our CWB message reached over 1500 children, and we were able to train over 40 coaches in basic cricket skill development, infused with the positive health messages that CWB promote.
